ARRIS D5™ Universal Edge QAM

The ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM (UEQ) is a unique class of edge network device that enables delivery of digital video content in a very dense, redundant, modular, and cost-effective package. The D5 solution delivers advanced Edge QAM functionality in support of Digital Broadcast, Video On Demand (VOD), Switched Digital Video (SDV) and Modular-CMTS (M-CMTS).

The ARRIS D5 UEQ allows for deployment of QAM channels in increments of 8 or 12, up to 72 in a single unit. As a result, cable operators can add capacity as needed. The D5 solution can ingest up to 1,488 simultaneous MPEG-2 transport streams, providing unmatched density.

Extensive management and provisioning features are integrated in the D5 solution using a of set of local or remote graphical and command line tools.

The D5 supports multiple edge-based encryption options including privacy mode, DVB simulcrypt and OpenCas.

Operators can benefit from reducing the expenses and operational complexity of using single purpose Edge QAMs when launching advanced multimedia delivery and future high-speed data services with the multi-service ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM. The ARRIS D5 UEQ supports VOD, SDV, Broadcast Digital and M-CMTS from a single image.

The D5 Edge QAM’s modular architecture and flexible configuration economically speeds network transitions to all-digital systems and enables inexpensive set-top boxes, cable modems and IP Set-Top Boxes to coexist on the same HFC downstream. Operators can start with MPEG-2 or DVB-C digital video today and migrate to IP TV services in the future.

The D5 Application Manager servers as an external, bulk D5 UEQ management tool and secure solution for managing privacy modem key exchange.
