NEW AUSPICE® TLX® 4.0 PROVIDES FOUNDATION FOR COX COMMUNICATIONS’ ROLL-OUT OF ADVANCED OPERATIONS AUTOMATION SOLUTION

Companies Collaborate to Rapidly Develop and Deploy a Next-Generation, Cross-Service Solution That Proactively Assures Health and Reliability of High-Speed Data, Telephony and Video Services

Anaheim, Calif. ― December 3, 2003 ― Today at the Western Show, Auspice Corporation, a provider of real-time operations automation software, announced that Cox Communications, a premier nationwide broadband services provider, is rolling out an industry leading integrated cross-service cable operations automation solution based on the new Auspice TLX 4.0 Real-Time Systems Integration and Operations Automation Platform.

The TLX-based solution automates the complex steps that intelligently detect and correlate HFC (hybrid-fiber-coax) plant outages across multiple service lines ― high speed data, telephony and video ― and assist in identifying the cause and total scope of outages. Cox expects this solution to positively affect mean-time-to-repair and restoration of customers’ service in the event of network problems.

In addition, the solution automatically creates a performance score for each physical HFC network region (e.g., by node), prioritizes them to identify the most severe issues and generates maintenance tickets. This will further improve Cox’s ability to proactively and cost-effectively manage the health and performance of their networks before failures occur, thus reducing the number and duration of customer-impacting outages.

"With TLX, we’re creating a solution that helps automate diagnostic and correlation practices and improve overall operational efficiency," said Debbie Simmons, Cox Communications Director of Network Services. "Now we have a unified tool that gives our technicians a single view across multiple services ― voice, video and data. We anticipate this tool greatly enhancing our ability to proactively improve the reliability and performance of our network and surpass our subscribers’ highest expectations of quality service."

To develop the solution, Auspice’s engineering team collaborated with Cox’s engineering staff onsite at Cox’s Atlanta offices. Auspice’s training also enables Cox’s team to cost-effectively maintain and implement solution updates and extensions in functionality for solving additional issues.

"TLX’s process-automation development environment enabled us to significantly reduce the time to develop and deploy a much-needed solution in record time," said John Hall, Cox Communications Director of Operations Support Systems. "In about eight weeks, we created a solution that, using traditional methods, would have taken at least six months. We’ve completed the job quickly and can now use our TLX skills to extend the solution and assist in addressing additional operational challenges."

The full scope of the cross-service solution is expected to provide significant ROI across key operations organizations: network operations, field operations and customer service. Once user acceptance testing is complete, Cox plans to deploy the solution to assist operations personnel in all its markets.

"Leveraging the market-proven, nationally-deployed TLX automation platform from Auspice, the joint Cox-Auspice team was able to deliver a cost-effective next-generation operations management capability in a matter of a few weeks," commented Rick Berthold, CTO of Auspice. "This engagement represents the successful intersection of our advanced technology and Cox’s leadership vision of broadband service operations support."

About Auspice

Founded in 1997, Auspice, The Enterprise Control Company, is the first commercial developer of an enterprise control software platform that enables enterprises and service providers to manage disparate technology infrastructure in an orchestrated manner to dramatically improve operations reliability and efficiency. With its roots in the modern-day manned space program, Auspice’s TLX platform was originally developed for mission-critical and complex operational environments, such as the International Space Station (for NASA), which are characterized by heterogeneous systems that demand absolute reliability. Auspice is also the developer of the TLX-based OpsLogic Broadband Solution Suite — a set of integrated operations automation applications for broadband service providers. The OpsLogic Solution Suite was developed on and can be extended with the Auspice TLX platform to meet the specific needs of individual service providers. Auspice TLX and Auspice OpsLogic applications are currently deployed at leading North American service providers. Visit www.auspicecorp.com.
